Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He States They Should Face Capital Punishment

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed fury after the ex-president accused a group of Democratic legislators of being "traitors" and asserted they should be arrested and penalized "by death" following their release of a controversial video.

The Recording That Triggered the Debate

The recorded message, released on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who in the past worked in military or intelligence positions.

"Like us, you all made an oath to protect and defend this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the 90-second video. "Currently, the dangers to our governing document don't only come from overseas, but from within our own country. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can decline improper directives, you can decline illegal orders, you must reject improper directives. No one has to execute orders that break the law or our national charter."

Trump's Incensed Reaction

The clip reportedly prompt a angry response from the previous commander-in-chief.

On Thursday morning, Trump published on Truth Social: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional post, he wrote: "This constitutes really serious, and Dangerous to our Nation. Their statements cannot be permitted to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a comment that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Representatives Respond

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, House Democratic leader released a unified announcement denouncing the comments.

"Violent politics has no place in America," they wrote. "Congress members who were featured in the video all served our country with great loyalty and honor. We strongly censure Donald Trump's offensive and dangerous calls for execution against congressional representatives, and urge GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."

The party representatives also stated that they had been in contact with law enforcement "to ensure the security of these officials and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must immediately delete these unhinged digital publications and recant his dangerous language before he gets someone killed," the announcement stated.

Lawmakers' Firm Answer

The officials who appeared in the video also released a declaration.

"We identify as veterans and national security professionals who love this United States and took an pledge to protect and defend the founding document of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge continues forever, and we aim to maintain it. No threat, pressure, or incitement will deter us from that fundamental duty."

"The most revealing aspect is that the president considers it punishable by execution for us to repeat the law," they added. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their backs as they fulfill their pledge to the national charter and duty to obey only proper directives. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our duty."

They added: "All citizens must unite and denounce the president's calls for our death and ideological conflict. This is a time for moral clarity."

More Partisan Comments

The Opposition leader also censured Trump's remarks and posted on social media: "It's important to understand: the former president is calling for the execution of elected officials."

He stated: "This is an direct THREAT. All senators, all representatives, all citizens – regardless of party – should condemn this right away and without qualification."

The GOP leader supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had participated in "sedition", characterizing the video as "extremely improper", adding: "It is very risky, you have leading members of the legislature instructing troops to ignore directives, I think that is without precedent in American history."

The Conservative representative also allegedly stated to the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's posts, Trump was "describing the crime of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to analyze the language and establish all that."

Administration Response

During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when questioned by a reporter, "Would the president want to execute members of Congress?", the administration spokesperson replied: "Certainly not."

"Let's be clear about what the ex-commander in chief is responding to," the official said. "We see active officials of the American legislature who worked together to arrange a video message to members of the American armed forces, to serving soldiers encouraging them to disobey the executive's proper directives."

She added: "The purity of our defense system relies on the hierarchy, and if that structure is violated, it can lead to casualties, it can cause chaos, and that is exactly what these elected officials ... are basically promoting."
