Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
