No Kieran McKenna Celtic FC Discussions as Bellamy Commits to Welsh National Team

Each have been linked with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following the former manager's departure on the start of the week.

The Manager's Stance on Celtic

The Ipswich boss referred to the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The mid-thirties took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were relegated back to the Championship and they currently sit 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had any of those conversations," the London-born ex- Irish young player said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any part of my concentration is currently.

"I possess a special position here at a special club. And we're at a crucial phase of the campaign. Anything external hasn't reached my awareness."

Context and Agreement Details

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think all people has to go around and announce what they were, but of course it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a fresh four-year contract in last year and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I'm unaware what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this job like I'll be Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as while I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

Bellamy represented the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to finish the ongoing World Cup qualification, a position that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.

Wales are presently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in November would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, thanks to a successful European competition campaign, should they fail to end up their group second place.

Considering his present stance, Bellamy, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
