NY Introduces Online Platform for Citizens to Submit ICE Videos After Arrests of Four US Citizens

The state AG has introduced a recent digital platform asking residents to share visual evidence of immigration raids throughout the state. This step follows a shortly after a major enforcement action shook Chinatown in Manhattan, triggering mass protests.

American Citizens Arrested In Raid

A congressional representative announced during a midweek briefing that four citizens were detained and detained for "about 24 hours" following the enforcement action. Rallies broke out in the city on consecutive evenings.

"Every New Yorker has the right to exist without intimidation," the attorney general stated in a announcement.

"For those who saw and captured federal operations recently, I encourage you to submit that material with my office. We are pledged to assessing these accounts and investigating any wrongdoings."

Portal Features

The portal includes fields to submit photos and videos of the raid, as well as a field to specify where it occurred. Before submitting, users must mark a checkbox that confirms that "authorities could utilize any evidence provided in a public document, including in a court case or official statement."

Information about the Chinatown Raid

The enforcement action, which observers say featured more than 50 government officers, took place in a famous neighborhood of Manhattan where counterfeit products and merchandise are commonly traded widely – often to tourists.

Videos of Tuesday's raid depict multiple hooded and equipped federal agents restraining and arresting a person, and forcing aside onlookers. Throngs of residents trailed the agents down the sidewalks. An armored military vehicle was also seen rolling through the urban roads.

Political Response

At a news conference organized with the New York immigrant rights coalition, the congressman, a lawmaker, announced that four American citizens were taken by federal agents for about 24 hours and that there were "no circumstances where nationals should be taken for without cause." He said the individuals were let go on the following day with no charges filed.

"There's a clear purpose here. It is not focused on deporting lawbreakers," Goldman stated. "This is a military-style operation to incite tension. It is merely a excuse to provoke conflict for federal officials to utilize the military to halt conflict that they themselves caused."

Widespread Condemnation

Anger over the immigration operation rapidly grew – every NYC mayor hopefuls denounced the incident, including Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Once again, the current administration opts for oppressive displays that create fear, instead of protection. It needs to cease," a contender wrote.

NYC advocacy organizations spoke out also.

"Immigration agents raided the neighborhood with military-style vehicles, covered personnel and tactical gear to target small merchants trying to make a living. This action had no relation to citizen protection and focused completely on terrorizing immigrant families and neighborhoods," remarked the president of a major immigrant coalition.

Agency Rules

Agency rules prohibits the arrest of American nationals and the organization has said it does not apprehend US citizens. Nevertheless, investigative journalism has revealed that numerous American nationals have been detained unlawfully by ICE during the period of the current administration.

Ongoing Trend

Immigration operations have been becoming more common in New York and around the country recently.

A recent action in midtown Manhattan was the initial documented operation on an immigrant shelter of the existing leadership. Protests opposing immigration enforcement are ubiquitous as are allegations of violence and inhumane treatment.

Latest, a document provided by legal entities stated medical neglect of women with child in ICE facilities.
