The American champion Confident of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "perfectly prepared" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, after securing a podium spot for the fourth time in five World Cup events.

The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Racing in the iconic venue for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm happy with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She boasts an Olympic gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"At the Olympics, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has won over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup campaign features a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
