2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a clearer direction.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now overhauling the project with a revised approach, aiming to address gamer demands.
The news follows a comparable action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire content from Ismailer's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a sharper vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its promise to our players.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of the team. After a period of talks, he starts with us on next week.
Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter field is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in welcoming Ben next week. We are all looking forward to persist witnessing the evolution of the game in the months to come.
David
The appointee currently serves in the role of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Then, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch states. "Challenge the opponents with new abilities, stakes, and obstacles that change every round. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Or go big, risk it all, and hope your squad can earn top ranking? The option is yours."
The game lacks an official release date or supported systems, but players can look forward to more updates as creation advances.
