The Gory Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Lingers Viewers

Out of all the mature animated films I’ve personally watched, nothing has stuck with me quite like the fear-filled ending of the graphically gory and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, this Spanish writer-director developed a grim, melancholy and often savage world that included a few small , desolate hints of optimism.

Although The Unicorn Wars seems like it stemmed from a desire to push animation further, the director explained that it was actually an attempt to communicate a universal, multicultural message about “the common origin of all wars.”

This theme is conveyed via a band of vividly colored bears , clearly inspired by a well-known line of cuddly figures.

Being raised in a society centered on militarism as well as the war machine, numerous the bears are consumed by killing unicorns, because of a sacred text which states them they previously were masters of the woods, before these creatures expelled them.

A few have not completely bought into the propaganda, and choose to sample narcotics or mate in the forest.

Unlike their gentle equivalents, these colorful critters have visible genitals and obvious urges.

For one particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the battle against unicorns transforms into a route to power — and particularly to authority over his gentler, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.

The character is a bully and a seeming antisocial figure , and when terror overcomes his squad and claims his comrades one by one, he takes increasingly control personally, in increasingly gory, damaging approaches.

At the same time, the unicorns are experiencing their own terror, in the form of an expanding, harmful creature in their woods.

“Initially, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the director commented. “But then it turns into a more dramatic and melancholic movie. And ultimately, it becomes a scary feature.”

Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like one of the more playful features by a legendary filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in allowing animated figures swear, fire weapons, or have intimate relations.

Subsequently it becomes closer to a darker work from the same director, featuring progressively explicit brutality , a tangible relation to the real horror of battle.

Ultimately, it becomes a complete theatrical horror carnage.

The terror that turns the film a perfect Halloween watch begins well before than indicated.

Unicorn Wars is suited for the most dedicated gorehounds, for lovers of graphic films who desire to view something they haven’t ever seen on-screen before, and who can handle a story which delivers unflinching brutality.

View it in a dimly lit space free from interruptions, and the conclusion will crawl deep within you and linger.
