Citizens have come together across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks advanced in Egypt over an end to the hostilities in Gaza.
The incident saw over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most lethal day for Jews since the Second World War.
Israel reacted by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are considered trustworthy by the United Nations and other world agencies.
"The bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on Tuesday.
He also pledged to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the return of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will never again present a threat to Israel".
The national leadership postponed official remembrance events until mid-October - after the completion of the festive season - but events still occurred throughout the country on that day.
A remembrance service for the relatives of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the affected families, it was aired throughout Israeli television channels.
Hours earlier, a silent tribute was respected around the country.
Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams gathered in the North African Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of indirect talks to review the conditions of the plan.
A prominent representative knowledgeable about the talks indicated that an late session of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.
The official explained the day's discussions concluded without significant progress, because of differences over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not restart combat after the initial stage of the deal.

"Once we see all home again, we can feel relief again. Then we can start to recover," she continued.
Near the leader's residence in Jerusalem, people assembled to show their solidarity for the relatives of the captives. Israel states 48 remain in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be alive.
Protester one woman remarked: "We need do whatever arrangement required for the captives to be released. But we really want assurances that we will be safe."
Research now consistently show that around 70% of the population prefer the hostilities to finish in return for the liberation of the abducted.
At the site of Nova festival, mourners came together to pay their respects.
From that location, the boom of military attacks and shelling could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers said the intense Israeli bombardment carried on.
In Gaza City, bombardments were documented in the early hours of that day in the western neighborhood, area and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area reported it had received the remains of half dozen people by the daytime, including several killed in an Israeli bombing in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.
