Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
The president explained he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community members came together over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to support law enforcement in Washington DC.
“Sarah was the individual that instructors desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the head of her former high school, told the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to help others.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the government to pause asylum processing and halt providing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed a news show that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with excellence, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,” the governor told the audience at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
